Charcoal panels look great in the showroom, but the finish stands or falls on the accessories and the fitting. The panel itself is about ₹200/sq ft; done properly with trims, adhesive and labour it lands around ₹260–290/sq ft. Here is exactly what you need, how charcoal louvers go on a wall, and the small costs nobody quotes upfront.
What charcoal panel installation actually costs
The sticker price is the panel. The finished job also carries adhesive, trims, sometimes a backing board, and labour. Here is the full breakdown per sq ft.
| Cost component | Typical rate | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Charcoal panels | ₹200/sq ft | The panel itself (8×2 ft, 4 mm) |
| Adhesive & pin nails | ~₹8–15/sq ft | Panel adhesive plus flange pins |
| Trims & end caps | ~₹10–25/sq ft | Corners, edges, matching profiles |
| Plywood backing (if needed) | ~₹60–90/sq ft | Only on uneven or hollow walls |
| Installation labour | ~₹25–60/sq ft | Varies by city and wall complexity |
On a flat, sound wall you can skip the plywood backing and glue direct, which is where most of the saving is.
The accessories nobody mentions
A raw panel butted against a wall looks unfinished at the edges and corners. These are the parts that turn it into a proper feature wall.
Trims & corners
- Matching end caps for exposed edges
- Inside & outside corner profiles
- Colour-matched to the panel
Fixing kit
- Panel adhesive (grab bond)
- Pin nails for the flanges
- Colour-matched filler / caulk
Prep bits
- Plumb line & spirit level
- Fine-tooth blade for clean cuts
- Ply base only on rough walls
How to fix charcoal louvers on a wall
Charcoal louvers glue and pin onto a sound, dry wall. The order matters more than the speed.
- Check the wall. It must be dry, sound and reasonably flat. Damp or hollow walls need sealing or a ply base first.
- Mark a plumb line. Set a true vertical at your starting edge so the whole run stays square.
- Cut to height. Measure and cut panels with a fine-tooth blade for a clean, chip-free edge.
- Glue and press. Apply panel adhesive in vertical beads, press the panel to the wall along the plumb line.
- Pin the flanges. Secure the interlocking flanges with pin nails so panels sit tight while the adhesive cures.
- Finish the edges. Cap exposed ends and corners with matching trims, then fill and caulk any joints.
Charcoal is termite-proof and moisture-resistant, but it is for dry feature walls, not showers or wet zones. For bathrooms, use PVC.
Worked example: a 10 × 8 ft feature wall
A typical living-room feature wall of about 10 ft wide × 8 ft high (80 sq ft) in charcoal, glued direct onto a sound wall, works out like this.
| Item | Rate | Amount (80 sq ft) |
|---|---|---|
| Charcoal panels | ₹200/sq ft | ₹16,000 |
| Adhesive & pins | ~₹12/sq ft | ₹960 |
| Trims & end caps | ~₹18/sq ft | ₹1,440 |
| Installation labour | ~₹40/sq ft | ₹3,200 |
That is roughly ₹270/sq ft all-in. Add a plywood base for an uneven wall and the total rises accordingly.
Frequently asked questions
The panel is about ₹200 per sq ft. Fully fitted with trims, adhesive and labour it works out around ₹260–290 per sq ft. An 80 sq ft feature wall is roughly ₹21,600 installed.
Matching end caps and corner trims, panel adhesive and pin nails, and colour-matched filler. These are what stop the raw-edge look and give a clean, finished wall.
On a sound, dry, level wall: mark a plumb line, apply panel adhesive to the back, press the panel on and pin the flanges, then cap the edges with matching trims. Avoid wet zones.
Only if the wall is uneven or hollow. On a flat, sound wall you can glue direct. A rough wall needs an 8–12 mm ply base for a flush finish, which adds about ₹60–90 per sq ft.
They are termite-proof and moisture-resistant, ideal for dry feature walls. For bathrooms and other wet zones, use 100% waterproof PVC instead.
