Search "wooden wall panels" in India today and you will find two very different products wearing the same name. One is genuine solid timber. The other is an engineered wood-look panel built for Indian conditions. They look almost identical on a moodboard and behave nothing alike on a wall. This guide sorts out which is which, what each costs per square foot in 2026, and which finish actually survives Indian heat, damp and termites.
At Urbane Decor we have fitted wood-look feature walls in over 2,400 projects since 2024, so the verdict below is based on what holds up in real homes, not on a brochure.
The four things sold as "wooden wall panels"
When a showroom says "wooden panel", it usually means one of these four. Only one is real wood; the other three imitate the grain with far better durability.
- Solid wood panels. Real timber slats or planks. The warmest look, and the least forgiving. Solid wood expands, contracts and warps with India's humidity swings, needs periodic polishing, and is vulnerable to termites unless treated.
- Veneer on plywood. A thin real-wood layer glued to a ply base. Cheaper than solid wood, but the ply core still swells if moisture reaches an edge, and the veneer can peel over time.
- WPC and charcoal panels (wood-polymer composite). Reclaimed wood fibre, bamboo charcoal and polymer, extruded into a ribbed or fluted profile. It carries a convincing wood grain but is waterproof and termite-proof all the way through, with no core to swell.
- PVC panels. The most budget-friendly wood-look, fully waterproof, lighter and thinner. Best for low-traffic walls and ceilings rather than statement features.
| Panel type | Wood-look | Waterproof | Termite-proof | Warps in humidity | Price / sq ft | Warranty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solid wood | Best | No | Only if treated | Yes | ₹500 to ₹1,500+ | None standard |
| Veneer on ply | Very good | No | No | At the edges | ₹250 to ₹600 | Limited |
| WPC / charcoal | Very good | Yes | Yes | No | From ₹200 | 6 years |
| PVC | Good | Yes | Yes | No | From ₹99 | Yes |
For most Indian homes the practical winner is a WPC or charcoal panel. You keep the wooden look and lose the maintenance, the warping and the termite risk. If you want the deeper reasoning on the material itself, our WPC vs PVC comparison breaks it down.
Which wooden panel suits which room
The right choice changes with the wall, not the style you saw on Instagram.
- Living room and TV wall. The headline feature wall. WPC fluted or charcoal panels give depth and shadow lines that read as premium timber. See our fluted WPC panels.
- Bedroom headboard. A full-height wood-look panel behind the bed. WPC keeps the warmth without off-gassing or termite worry.
- Bathroom and kitchen. Solid wood is a mistake here. Only waterproof WPC or PVC belongs on a wet or greasy wall.
- Exterior and balcony. Facades and soffits need a panel rated for sun and rain. WPC louvers handle it; solid wood does not without constant upkeep.
Wooden wall panel designs trending in 2026
Four looks are driving most enquiries this year:
- Fluted and ribbed. Vertical grooves that throw soft shadows and make a room feel taller.
- Wide slat and louver. Spaced timber-look bars, used as partitions and full walls.
- Charcoal wood. Deep, smoky wood tones for a warm, contemporary feature wall.
- Full-height floor-to-ceiling. One uninterrupted wood plane behind a bed or TV, the cleanest way to make a small wall look expensive.
Wooden wall panel price in India (2026)
Engineered wood-look panels are a fraction of solid timber, and the gap widens once you add polishing and pest treatment to the wood bill.
- WPC and charcoal wood-look panels: from ₹200 per sq ft.
- PVC wood-look panels: from ₹99 per sq ft.
- Veneer on ply: roughly ₹250 to ₹600 per sq ft.
- Solid wood: ₹500 to ₹1,500+ per sq ft, before maintenance.

Installation and maintenance
Engineered wooden panels install dry, straight onto a level wall with adhesive and a few mechanical fixings, so there are no wet trades and almost no dust. Solid wood usually needs battening, acclimatisation and finishing on site. Our step-by-step installation guide covers the WPC method. Upkeep is the real difference: a WPC panel needs a wipe with a damp cloth, while solid wood needs periodic polishing and sealing to hold its finish.
Frequently asked questions
Are wooden wall panels waterproof?
Solid wood and veneer are not; they absorb moisture and can swell or warp. WPC, charcoal and PVC wood-look panels are waterproof through the full thickness, which is why they are the only safe wooden look for bathrooms and kitchens.
What is the price of wooden wall panels in India?
Engineered wood-look panels start at ₹99 per sq ft for PVC and ₹200 per sq ft for WPC and charcoal. Solid timber runs ₹500 to ₹1,500+ per sq ft before polishing and pest treatment.
Which is better, solid wood or WPC wall panels?
For Indian conditions, WPC. You keep the wooden look and the warmth, and you drop the warping, the termite risk, the polishing and most of the cost. Solid wood only makes sense where budget is no object and the wall stays dry and climate-controlled.
Can wooden wall panels be used in bathrooms and kitchens?
Only the waterproof kinds. Use WPC, charcoal or PVC on wet and greasy walls, and keep solid wood and veneer out of those rooms.
Do wooden wall panels get eaten by termites?
Solid wood can. WPC and charcoal panels have no natural wood core to attack, so they are termite-proof and come with a six-year warranty.
How long do WPC wooden wall panels last?
With normal indoor use they hold their finish for well over a decade, and we back them with a six-year warranty against warping, fading and termite damage.
