Pooja Room Wall Panels

A pooja room or mandir wall needs three things from its backdrop: a soft glow, a surface that wipes clean, and a calm design. Backlit alabaster from ₹240 per sq ft is the centrepiece, with marble-look sheets and fluted panels from ₹99 per sq ft around it.

Designing a mandir back wall with panels

Most home pooja spaces are small: a niche, a wall unit or a compact room. That makes the back wall the whole design.

A much-loved look is a backlit panel: a translucent alabaster sheet with warm LED light behind it, so the wall glows evenly. Around it, people use a marble-look sheet for a clean, bright surround or fluted panels for a warm wood frame.

This page covers materials, prices, lighting and fitting. It is practical design guidance only; placement and direction are personal choices for you and your family. For more looks, see our pooja room wall panel designs.

Best picks

Which wall panel is best for a pooja room?

Five materials that suit a small, well-lit space.

01

Alabaster sheets

From ₹240 per sq ft. Translucent, so they can be backlit. A single lit alabaster panel behind the mandir gives a soft, even glow and makes a natural centrepiece.

02

UV marble sheets

₹9,999 per 8 x 4 ft sheet. A glossy marble look in a large sheet, for a bright, clean surround. One sheet covers 32 sq ft, which is enough for many pooja niches.

03

WPC fluted panels

From ₹99 per sq ft. Warm wood-look flutes to frame the back wall or line the sides of a niche. Waterproof and termite-proof.

04

PVC panels

From ₹99 per sq ft. Waterproof and termite-proof, in plain and marble-look designs. An economical PVC wall panel for a mandir wall or the inside of a pooja unit.

05

Maestà Bharat SPC sheets

₹9,999 per 8 x 4 ft sheet, about ₹312 per sq ft. Marble-look sheets with a quieter sheen, for a stone-like wall without stone work.

06

Rattan cane webbing

From ₹240 per sq ft. Woven cane for the door shutters of a pooja unit, where it lets air and light through. Keep it away from lamps and incense.

Practical guidance

Backlit panels, lighting and cleaning for a pooja room

Get these right and the wall looks after itself.

01

How a backlit panel works

The alabaster sheet is fixed on a shallow frame with LED strips or an LED sheet behind it. Leave a gap between the lights and the sheet so the glow is even and no dots or hot spots show through.

02

Light colour and dimming

Warm white light suits alabaster and brass. Add a dimmer so the wall can be bright in the morning and soft in the evening. Keep the LED driver somewhere you can reach.

03

Lamps and incense

Keep panels clear of the open flame of a diya and away from incense holders. Place lamps on a stone or metal base, forward of the back wall, with open space above.

04

Easy-clean surfaces

Oil, soot and incense ash settle on nearby surfaces. Smooth, flat panels wipe clean with a soft damp cloth. Avoid deep grooves right behind the lamp shelf.

05

Shelves and bells

Panels are decorative, not load-bearing. Anchor shelves, a wall-hung mandir and bells through the panel into the solid wall or a ply backing.

06

Small spaces

In a niche or compact unit, use light colours and one hero material. A backlit panel with a plain surround looks calmer than three finishes together.

Avoid these

Common mistakes in a pooja room

Mostly about light and fixing.

1
Placing LEDs too close to the alabaster, so dots and hot spots show
2
Sealing the LED driver behind the panel with no access
3
Hanging a heavy mandir or shelf on the panel instead of the wall
4
Using deep textures right behind the lamp, where soot collects

FAQ

Pooja room wall panels, answered

Which wall panel is best for a pooja room?

A backlit alabaster panel is a popular choice for a pooja room, from ₹240 per sq ft, because it gives a soft, even glow. Pair it with UV marble sheets at ₹9,999 per 8 x 4 ft sheet for a bright surround, or fluted WPC from ₹99 per sq ft for a warm frame.

How does a backlit panel for a pooja room work?

A translucent alabaster sheet is fixed on a shallow frame with warm LED lights behind it. A gap between the lights and the sheet spreads the glow evenly. The LED driver is kept accessible, and a dimmer lets you set the brightness.

Is PVC wall panel good for a mandir wall?

Yes. PVC panels are waterproof and termite-proof, wipe clean easily and start from ₹99 per sq ft. They work as a mandir back wall panel or inside a pooja unit. Keep any panel clear of the open flame of a lamp and away from incense holders.

Can UV marble sheet be used for a mandir design?

Yes. UV marble sheets give a glossy marble look and cost ₹9,999 per 8 x 4 ft sheet. One sheet covers 32 sq ft, which is enough for many pooja niches. They are often combined with a backlit alabaster panel in the centre.

What is the PVC wall panel mandir design price?

PVC and WPC fluted panels start from ₹99 per sq ft for material. Alabaster for a backlit panel starts from ₹240 per sq ft. For a 4 x 6 ft back wall of 24 sq ft, alabaster material starts at about ₹5,760. Lights and fitting are extra.

Can a mandir be hung on a panelled wall?

Yes, but the load must go into the wall, not the panel. Decorative panels are not load-bearing. Anchor a wall-hung mandir, shelves and bells through the panel into the brick or concrete wall, or into a plywood backing fixed before panelling.

Can a TV wall panel include a mandir?

Yes. In compact homes a pooja niche is often built into the same panelled wall as the TV unit. Use one panel family across the wall, such as fluted WPC, and mark the niche with a backlit alabaster panel so it reads as its own space.

How to clean pooja room wall panels?

Wipe the panels with a soft damp cloth to remove oil marks, soot and incense ash, then dry them. Do not use abrasive scrubbers. Smooth panels are the easiest to maintain, so keep deep textures away from the lamp shelf.
