Alabaster is a naturally occurring translucent stone, prized for the warm, luminous glow it gives off when backlit. It has been used in luxury interiors for centuries, and today it is cut into thin sheets to create dramatic backlit feature walls, ceilings and partitions.
Because it is genuine quarried stone, every sheet carries its own veining and colour movement — no two are identical. Mounted on a fibreglass backing, the sheets keep the depth and authenticity of solid stone at a fraction of the weight, so they fix to walls, counters and ceilings that could never carry a stone slab.

Can alabaster sheets be backlit?

Is alabaster real natural stone?
Yes. Unlike resin or acrylic imitations, alabaster is genuine quarried stone, so every sheet carries its own natural veining and colour variation. No two pieces are identical, which is part of the appeal.
How thick are the sheets and how are they backed?
Standard sheets are 10 to 12mm and mounted on a fibreglass backing that gives them structural strength while keeping them light. We also stock the Luxon Veil line at just 2mm for the most delicate, highly translucent applications.
How is alabaster installed and lit?
Sheets are cut to size on site with standard stone tools and fixed to a frame or substrate. For backlighting we advise on LED spacing and depth so the glow is even, with no visible hotspots or dark bands behind the joints.
