Inorbit Mall, Vashi — Flexible Louvers Column Cladding

A large-format retail fit-out where structural columns across the mall atrium were wrapped in flexible louvers, turning plain columns into warm, vertical architectural features.

The brief

A shopping mall atrium is one of the hardest surfaces to finish well. The columns are round, they run the full height of the space, and they sit in permanent public view under bright skylights. Rigid panels simply cannot follow a curved column without cutting the surface into visible facets, and any joint or seam becomes obvious at close range in a retail environment.

Inorbit Mall Vashi needed the columns across the atrium levels to read as a single, warm, continuous architectural element, and the work had to be delivered without closing trading floors for long.

Why flexible louvers

We supplied flexible louvers (UD-411) in a warm wood finish. Unlike rigid cladding, flexible louvers bend around curved surfaces, so each column could be wrapped continuously with the vertical rhythm running unbroken from base to soffit. The narrow 1-inch louver profile is what makes the curve possible, and it also creates the fine shadow lines that give the columns depth under the atrium light.

Because the louvers are lightweight and fix directly to the column substrate, there was no wet work and no heavy structure to build, which kept installation fast and low-disruption in a live retail environment.

The result

The columns now carry a consistent vertical grain across the atrium, softening a large, hard-surfaced retail space and giving it warmth without adding visual clutter. It is a good demonstration of where flexible louvers earn their place: curved, high-visibility surfaces that rigid panels cannot wrap cleanly.
