Search for "waterproof sheets for wall covering" and you will find plenty of shops ready to sell you a sheet for a damp wall. Very few will tell you the part that decides whether the job lasts: a waterproof sheet covers a damp wall, it does not cure it. This guide starts with the cause, then shows which sheets work where, how to fix them over a wall that has had damp, and what they cost in 2026.
First find and fix why the wall is damp: rising damp, a leaking pipe, rain seeping in from outside, or condensation. Once the wall is dry, the sheets that are fully waterproof are PVC (from ₹75 per sq ft, Clvin from ₹99), SPC and UV marble (₹9,999 per 8 × 4 ft sheet, about ₹312 per sq ft) and ACP (from ₹75 per sq ft, the one for outside walls). WPC and charcoal sheets belong on dry or mildly humid walls. Never put MDF, plywood, wallpaper or plain paint over a damp wall. Prices are material only, before GST.

Fix the cause first: what is making your wall damp?
Damp always has a source. A sheet glued over it hides the stain for a season while the water keeps working on the plaster behind. Match your wall to one of these four patterns, fix that, and only then choose a finish.
| Cause | Tell-tale sign | Quick check | Fix first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rising damp | A tide mark up to about a metre above the floor, white salty fuzz, paint peeling at the skirting. Common on ground floors. | Damp at the base, dry higher up, and it stays that way in every season. | A damp-proof course or injection by a waterproofing contractor, then remove salt-laden plaster and re-plaster. |
| Leaking plumbing | A patch next to a bathroom or kitchen wall, or along a concealed pipe line, that keeps growing whatever the weather. | Close every tap and watch the water meter or tank level. If it still moves, a pipe is leaking. | A plumber repairs the joint or pipe, then the wall is left to dry out fully. |
| Exterior seepage | Patches on an outside wall or below a terrace that appear or spread in the monsoon and fade in dry months. | Look outside for cracks, failed joints around windows, blocked drains or a terrace that holds water. | Seal the cracks, waterproof the external face or terrace, clear the drains, then let the wall dry. |
| Condensation | Droplets on cold surfaces, black mould in corners, behind wardrobes and in bathrooms without an exhaust fan. | Tape a square of foil to the wall for a day or two. Moisture on the room side of the foil means condensation; under it means water is coming through the wall. | Ventilation: an exhaust fan, open windows, a dehumidifier, and space behind furniture. |

If you cannot tell which it is, or more than one pattern fits, call a waterproofing contractor before you buy any finish. The older guide to seepage causes and prevention covers the building side in more depth.
A sheet is the last coat, not the cure. Spend on the cause first and the finish will last.
How a waterproof sheet fails on a damp wall
The sheet itself rarely fails. What fails is everything around it:
Most panel adhesives need a dry, sound surface. On wet or salty plaster the bond weakens and sheets bow or drop.
A sealed sheet stops the wall breathing on that face, so moisture spreads up the wall or into the next room.
Trapped moisture plus dust behind a sheet is where mould and smells start, out of sight until it shows at the edges.
Two ways of fixing avoid this. On a dry, sound wall, bond the sheet direct. On a wall that has been repaired but may stay a little humid, such as an outside wall in the monsoon, fix the sheet on non-wood channels with an air gap and vents, so any moisture can dry out instead of being trapped.
Which waterproof sheets work on damp-prone walls
Split the choices into two groups. The first four are fully waterproof sheets. The last two have cores that do not swell, but they are thinner decorative finishes we keep to dry or mildly humid walls.

PVC wall panels and sheets
100% waterproof and termite-proof, light and wipe-clean. The first choice for bathrooms, kitchens and walls that were damp and have been fixed. Plain, fluted and marble-look finishes in our Clvin range.
From ₹75 / sq ft entry · Clvin from ₹99

SPC wall panels
Stone polymer composite, mostly limestone powder bound with PVC. Rigid, 3 mm thin, and it does not swell, rot or grow mould, so it suits bathroom and shower walls with the joints sealed. Our range is Maestà Bharat.
₹9,999 per 8 × 4 ft sheet · about ₹312 / sq ft

UV marble sheets
A PVC core with a marble print and a hard UV-cured gloss coat. The core is waterproof and the surface wipes clean, so it suits humid bathrooms and kitchens. Shown: a real install in a five-star hotel shower in Pune.
₹9,999 per 8 × 4 ft sheet

ACP sheets
Two aluminium skins on a core with a PVDF finish. Weatherproof, and fixed on an aluminium sub-frame, which gives the air gap a damp-prone outside wall needs. FR grade is available and it is the only fire-rated product in our range.
From ₹75 / sq ft

WPC fluted panels
Wood-plastic composite with a waterproof core that will not swell or attract termites. It is a feature-wall finish: use it on dry living and bedroom walls, or on the vanity side of a bathroom, not over a wall with a damp history.
From ₹99 / sq ft

Charcoal sheets
A polystyrene (PS) core with bamboo charcoal and a printed face, 8 × 2 ft and 4 mm thin. The core shrugs off humidity, but it is a thin bonded sheet, so keep it to dry feature walls and balconies and out of showers.
From ₹200 / sq ft
MDF, plywood and laminate swell and rot. Wallpaper lifts and grows mould behind. Paint alone, even "waterproof" paint on the inside face, only hides the stain until the next monsoon. Alabaster and rattan cane are beautiful but belong on dry walls only.

Read across for your wall's condition. A tick means we would use it there, a dash means only with care, a cross means choose something else.
| Sheet | Shower or splash wall | Repaired wall, may stay humid | Dry wall in a humid room | Exposed outside wall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PVC (Clvin) | Yes | Framed | Yes | Use ACP |
| SPC | Sealed | Dry base | Yes | No |
| UV marble | Sealed | Dry base | Yes | No |
| ACP | Not usual | Sub-frame | Yes | Yes |
| WPC | No | No | Yes | No |
| Charcoal (PS) | No | No | Yes | Balconies |
| MDF, ply, wallpaper | No | No | No | No |
"Repaired wall" means the cause is fixed and the wall is dry to the touch, but it is an outside or ground-floor wall that may pick up some humidity in the monsoon.
Waterproof wall sheet price per sq ft (2026)
Starting material prices for the sheets in this guide, before GST. Premium finishes cost more; installation, adhesive, trims and any framing are extra.
| Sheet | Water rating | Best on | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| PVC, entry plain | 100% waterproof | Bathrooms, utility walls, rentals | ₹75 / sq ft |
| PVC, Clvin | 100% waterproof | Bathrooms, kitchens, repaired walls | ₹99 / sq ft |
| ACP | Weatherproof | Outside walls, facades | ₹75 / sq ft |
| SPC (Maestà Bharat) | Waterproof, does not swell | Shower and marble walls | ₹9,999 / sheet |
| UV marble (MAESTÀ) | Waterproof PVC core | Bathrooms, kitchens | ₹9,999 / sheet |
| WPC (Wudonn) | Waterproof core, dry walls | Feature walls | ₹99 / sq ft |
| Charcoal (PS) | Moisture-resistant, dry walls | Feature walls | ₹200 / sq ft |
SPC and UV marble sheets are 8 × 4 ft (32 sq ft), so ₹9,999 works out to about ₹312 per sq ft. Every sheet carries a 6-year warranty; ACP is 6 to 10 years depending on the grade selected.
Worked example: a 12 × 8 ft damp-prone wall
Take an outside living-room wall, 12 ft wide and 8 ft high, that showed monsoon seepage. The outside cracks have been sealed and the wall has dried out. It is 96 sq ft, which is exactly three 8 × 4 ft sheets. We add indicative fitting costs from our installation cost guide: about ₹12 per sq ft adhesive and fasteners, ₹18 trims and ₹40 labour, so ₹70 per sq ft or ₹6,720 for the wall.
| Sheet | Material | Material + fitting | Relative cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACP | 96 × ₹75 = ₹7,200 | about ₹13,920 | |
| PVC, Clvin | 96 × ₹99 = ₹9,504 | about ₹16,224 | |
| SPC | 3 sheets × ₹9,999 = ₹29,997 | about ₹36,717 | |
| UV marble | 3 sheets × ₹9,999 = ₹29,997 | about ₹36,717 |
Before GST, starting finishes. Not included: the damp repair itself (get that quoted by a waterproofing contractor or plumber), wastage of 5 to 10%, and framing if you choose Method B. ACP is normally fixed on an aluminium sub-frame, so ask for it as an installed rate. Send us the wall size and we will quote material, trims and labour as one figure.
Decide in ten seconds
Bond direct
Any sheet you like the look of. PVC or SPC if it is a bathroom wall.
Frame it, vent it
PVC, SPC or UV marble on non-wood channels with an air gap, or ACP on its sub-frame.
PVC or SPC, sealed
Silicone at every joint, corner, pipe cut-out and the floor line.
Do not panel yet
Fix the source first. Any sheet will only hide it for a season.
How to fit waterproof sheets over a wall that has had damp
- Fix the cause. Damp-proof course, plumbing repair, exterior sealing or ventilation, from the table above.
- Let it dry, then strip back. Scrape off peeling paint and salt-laden or crumbling plaster, wash off mould, and re-plaster where needed.
- Check it is really dry. Repeat the foil test, or ask your contractor for a moisture-meter reading. For exterior seepage, waiting through the next heavy rain shows whether the repair held.
- Choose the method. Bond direct (Method A) only on a dry, sound, flat wall. Otherwise frame it (Method B).
- Frame with non-wood channels. Aluminium or PVC channels, never plywood or MDF battens on a damp-prone wall. Sheets such as SPC and UV marble need a flat, continuous, moisture-proof backing on the frame.
- Leave the air path open. Keep a small gap at the floor and ceiling and cover it with a skirting or trim that has openings, so air can move behind the sheet.
- Plan the plumbing. Mark every tap, mixer, geyser point and waste pipe before cutting, and leave an access panel at valves and traps.
- Seal the room side. In wet zones, run silicone along every joint, the internal corners, the top trim and the floor line; finish pipe cut-outs with a cover plate and a bead of silicone.
- Ventilate and check yearly. Run the exhaust fan, keep furniture a hand's width off the wall, and before each monsoon redo any silicone that has lifted.
Panelling over old tiles or paint follows the same rules; see installing panels over tiles or painted walls.
Five myths about damp walls and sheets
"A waterproof sheet stops seepage."
It stops water reaching the room face. The water is still in the wall, and it will move up, sideways or into the plaster behind until the source is fixed.
"Waterproof sheet means a waterproof wall."
Water gets in at the joints, edges and pipe cut-outs, not through the sheet. Sealing those is what makes a wet wall work.
"Glue it tight everywhere so nothing gets in."
On a wall that may stay humid, sealing the back traps moisture. Seal the room side, and leave the air gap behind vented.
"Waterproof paint inside will do."
Paint on the inside face does nothing about rising damp or rain coming in from outside. It peels again next season.
"Wall panelling causes damp."
Panelling does not create water. It can trap damp that is already there, which is why the wall must be dry first and framed and vented if it may pick up moisture again.
- Sheets cover a damp wall; they do not cure seepage. Find the cause: rising damp, plumbing, exterior seepage or condensation.
- Fully waterproof choices: PVC (from ₹75, Clvin from ₹99), SPC and UV marble (₹9,999 per 8 × 4 ft sheet) and ACP (from ₹75, the one for outside walls).
- WPC and charcoal sheets are for dry or mildly humid walls. MDF, plywood, wallpaper and paint alone do not belong on a damp wall.
- Bond direct only on a dry, sound wall. On a repaired wall that may stay humid, frame with non-wood channels, leave an air gap and vent it.
- Seal joints, edges, corners and pipe cut-outs on the room side, and recheck the silicone before every monsoon.

WhatsApp +91 93243 69051Damp walls and waterproof sheets, questions answered
Do waterproof wall sheets stop seepage?
No. A waterproof sheet covers a damp wall and stops water reaching the room face, but the moisture stays in the wall. Fix the cause first (rising damp, a leaking pipe, exterior seepage or condensation), let the wall dry, and then fix the sheet.
Which waterproof sheet is best for damp walls?
Once the cause is fixed, PVC is the best value for indoor walls that have had damp, fixed on non-wood channels with an air gap if the wall may stay humid. SPC and UV marble give a stone look on a dry, flat base. For an outside wall, use ACP on an aluminium sub-frame.
Does wall panelling cause damp?
No, panelling does not create moisture. But fixing panels over a wall that is already damp traps that moisture, so it spreads and can grow mould behind. Panel only a dry wall, and frame and vent it if the wall may pick up moisture again.
Is PVC wall panel waterproof?
Yes. PVC wall panels are 100% waterproof and termite-proof, which is why they are the first choice for bathrooms and kitchens. The joints, corners and floor line still need silicone in wet zones, because water gets in at the edges, not through the panel.
Is UV marble sheet good for damp walls?
The sheet itself is waterproof, with a PVC core and a UV-cured surface, and it suits humid bathrooms and kitchens. It should not go over a wall that is still damp: fix the cause, let the wall dry, and fix the sheet on a dry, flat base with the joints sealed.
Is charcoal panel waterproof?
Our charcoal sheets have a polystyrene (PS) core with bamboo charcoal that does not swell with humidity. They are thin bonded decorative sheets, though, so we use them on dry feature walls and balconies, not inside showers or over walls with a damp history. For those, use PVC or SPC.
What is the price of waterproof wall sheets per sq ft?
Before GST, PVC starts at ₹75 per sq ft (Clvin from ₹99), ACP at ₹75, WPC at ₹99 and charcoal at ₹200 per sq ft. SPC and UV marble are ₹9,999 per 8 by 4 ft sheet, about ₹312 per sq ft. Installation, adhesive and trims are extra.
Can I use a PVC waterproof sheet on an outside wall?
PVC works on covered balconies and semi-open walls. For a fully exposed outside wall facing sun and rain, use ACP, which is weatherproof and fixed on an aluminium sub-frame.
Which waterproof sheets are best for bathroom walls?
PVC and SPC are the best for bathroom and shower walls, with every joint sealed. UV marble suits bathroom walls too. See our bathroom wall panel guide for costs.
What are wall guard sheets for damp walls?
"Wall guard" is a shop name for a thin plastic sheet glued over a damp patch. It protects the surface but follows the same rule as any sheet: on a wall that is still damp it traps moisture. Fix the cause first, then use a proper waterproof panel.
