- Termites go for cellulose. Anything with a wood or paper core is food.
- Paint and veneer bloom with mould in rooms that stay shut through the rains.

Sit-out ideas with WPC louvers
The sit-out is where most Kerala families first think of louvers. It is a semi-outdoor room, so the rule is simple: WPC louvers go where the roof protects them, and the surfaces the rain reaches get PVC or ACP.
- A slatted ceiling. Fluted WPC louvers run lengthways across the sit-out ceiling, which makes a short sit-out feel longer, and the warm wood tone sits well with laterite, red oxide floors and white walls. A 12 ft by 10 ft ceiling is 120 sq ft, so the material starts at 120 × ₹99 = ₹11,880.

Monsoon, humidity and termites: what to expect
Humidity. WPC, PVC and charcoal panels are non-absorbent, so the damp months do not swell or warp them, and they do not grow mould the way paint and veneer do. Wipe them with a damp cloth to clean.
Termites. None of these materials has a wood or paper core, so termites have nothing to eat. That matters more in Kerala than almost anywhere in India.
Direct weather. This is the one limit. Fluted WPC and charcoal louvers are made for interiors and covered areas. If the rain or the full sun reaches a surface, use ACP louvers or ACP sheets, which are built for exteriors.
