Wall Panels for Hotels and Hospitality (India 2026): Fire Rating, Durability, Maintenance
Urbane Decor

Hotel walls take more punishment than almost any other interior: luggage trolleys, housekeeping carts, steam, spilled drinks and thousands of guests a year. This guide maps the right wall panel to each hospitality zone, from porte-cochère to bathroom, and lists what to ask a supplier about fire documentation before anything goes into a drawing.

Short answer · updated 24 Oct 2026

Use aluminium composite (ACP) on facades, with the fire-rated (FR) grade wherever your fire consultant specifies it. Use 100% waterproof PVC in bathrooms and other wet zones, WPC or charcoal panels and louvers on dry feature walls in lobbies, corridors and rooms, and UV marble or backlit alabaster for hero walls. Decorative PVC, WPC and charcoal panels are finishes, not fire barriers, so ask for test documents on anything your consultant needs rated.

01 · Facade and arrival: ACP, and FR-grade ACP where it matters

The porte-cochère, the facade bands and the signage fascia are the only places on most hotels where panels face the open sky, so they need an exterior material. That is aluminium composite: two thin aluminium skins bonded to a core, finished in a PVDF coating that holds its colour in sun and rain. Our ACP comes in 3 mm and 4 mm, in standard and fire-rated (FR) grades, with wood, metallic, stone and solid finishes. Standard ACP starts from ₹75 per sq ft before GST and carries a warranty of 6 to 10 years depending on the grade selected.

For high-rise elevations, and wherever a fire consultant asks for it, specify FR-grade ACP. The difference is the core: an FR core is mineral-filled and designed to resist burning, where a standard core is not. FR ACP costs more than standard, so we price it on request against your elevation drawings. Louvered sun-screens, balcony screens and shop-front fins in hotels are also made in ACP; see our aluminium louvers and ACP panels pages.

We do not stock exterior WPC louvers. For any louver on an open elevation, our recommendation is ACP.

02 · Lobby and reception: the wall guests photograph

The lobby is where guests first judge a hotel, and it is usually the biggest single feature wall in the building. Four materials do most of the work here.

Rhythm and warmth

Louvers

Full-height louvers behind the reception desk, or flexible louvers wrapped around columns, give the deepest shadow lines. Our 9.5 ft designer louvers are ₹3,000 per piece; flexible WPC louvers start from ₹300 per sq ft.

Dry interiorsColumns and curvesOpen exteriors

Fluted WPC

Wide fluted sheets cover big walls with fewer joints and a wood look that does not crack, warp or attract termites. From ₹99 per sq ft.

Dry interiorsHumid citiesDirect heat
Stone without the weight

UV marble

MAESTÀ UV marble sheets give a high-gloss marble look at 8 × 4 ft per sheet, so a lift lobby or reception backdrop has few joints. ₹9,999 per sheet, about ₹312 per sq ft.

Two practical notes for lobbies. First, decide the lighting with the panel: grazing light from above makes flutes and louvers read deeper, and a backlit wall needs its LED layout and a removable access panel drawn before the sheets are cut. Second, a lobby wall is touched constantly near the desk and the lifts, so finish the lower metre with a material that wipes clean, or set a skirting or kick band.

03 · Lift lobbies and corridors: built for trolleys

Corridors are where walls get damaged. Luggage and housekeeping trolleys hit the same height on every wall, so the best corridor panel is one you can replace a single strip of without opening the whole wall. Fluted WPC and PVC panels do exactly that: they are fixed in strips, wiped clean with a damp cloth, and swapped one at a time.

Corridors need panels that clean easily and can be replaced strip by strip.
  • Protect the trolley line. Use a durable skirting, a kick band or a chair-rail profile at trolley height, and order a few spare panels from the same batch for repairs.
  • Charcoal only on dry walls. Charcoal panels (from ₹200 per sq ft, 8 × 2 ft, 4 mm) give rich wood and stone looks and are termite-proof, but keep them out of wet areas.
  • Check escape routes first. Corridors and stair cores are often escape routes. Your fire consultant decides what wall linings are allowed there; where a rated lining is required, use a material with test documents for that rating.

04 · Guest rooms: fast, dry, quiet installs

In a renovation, every day a room is off sale costs money. Wall panels go up dry, with adhesive and concealed fixings, so a headboard wall or a TV wall can usually be done without wet plaster, paint drying time or the smell of fresh polish. Charcoal or WPC panels behind the bed, louvers framing the headboard, and a fluted TV wall are the usual three moves.

A panelled headboard wall is the single biggest upgrade in a guest room.

Keep panels a sensible distance from heaters, kettles and irons, and plan switch and socket cut-outs before the panels arrive so that the layout is centred on the bed. For more headboard ideas see our bedroom wall panel guide.

05 · Bathrooms and spa: 100% waterproof PVC

In wet zones the answer is PVC. Our Clvin PVC panels are 100% waterproof and termite-proof, they have no grout lines for mould to settle in, and they install over sound existing tiles in many refurbishments. That makes them a strong choice for guest bathrooms, spa changing rooms and staff washrooms.

Do not use charcoal panels in showers or anywhere they will stay wet. For the full wet-zone breakdown read best wall panels for bathrooms, and see the range on our Clvin PVC panels page.

06 · Restaurants, bars and banquets: mood, warmth and noise

Dining rooms and bars are where panels earn their keep as atmosphere. Louvers and charcoal panels add warmth and rhythm, backlit alabaster turns a bar front into the brightest thing in the room, and acoustic panels take the edge off a busy banquet hall or a meeting room.

Two cautions. Behind a live cooking line or a tandoor, use ACP rather than any decorative panel, as covered in our kitchen panel guide. And for any backlit wall, specify warm LEDs with an even spread, and a way to reach them later. Our alabaster sheets page lists current finishes and prices.

07 · Back of house: hygienic and cheap to keep

Staff corridors, linen rooms, dry walls near kitchens and staff canteens need surfaces that clean in seconds and survive knocks. PVC panels from ₹99 per sq ft are the practical choice; add corner guards where trolleys turn.

Fire rating: what to ask a supplier

Fire safety in a hotel is decided by your fire consultant and the local authority, usually with the National Building Code of India (Part 4, Fire and Life Safety) as the reference. A supplier's job is to give you honest, checkable documents for the exact product you are buying. Use this checklist before any material goes into a specification.

  1. Which standard, and which class? Ask for the test standard and the classification achieved, in writing. Your consultant decides which standard and class the occupancy needs.
  2. Is the report for this exact product? Core type, thickness, finish and product code should match what will be delivered. A report for a different core or thickness does not transfer.
  3. Who tested it, and when? Ask for the full test report from an independent, accredited laboratory, not just a one-page certificate, and check the date.
  4. Was it tested as a system? Fire behaviour depends on the substrate, the adhesive or fixing, and any cavity behind the panel. Install the way it was tested.
  5. For ACP: FR core or standard core? Ask how the FR core can be identified on delivered sheets and in the batch documents, so that what reaches site matches the specification.
  6. Smoke and droplets. If your consultant needs smoke or flaming-droplet classes as well as flame spread, ask whether the report covers them.
  7. Do the documents match the warranty? The fire report, the data sheet and the warranty should all name the same product.
Our position, plainly. Decorative PVC, WPC and charcoal wall panels, louvers and UV marble sheets are interior finishes, not fire-rated products. Where a rating is required, specify FR-grade ACP or another material that holds the right test documents, and we will share the documentation available for the FR product you are pricing. If a document is not available for a product, we will say so rather than guess.

Housekeeping rule of thumb for every panel: no solvents, thinners or abrasive scrubbers, and dry any standing water on non-PVC surfaces. Hand the cleaning sheet to the housekeeping team at handover, not after the first complaint.

Proof under heavy use

Hotels are not the only buildings that punish walls. This wall in a busy Mumbai gym went from bare cement to wood-finish WPC panels, and takes daily knocks from equipment and members.

Hospitality wall panel questions, answered

Which wall panels are best for hotels in India?

Use ACP on facades and arrival canopies, with FR-grade ACP where your fire consultant specifies it. Use 100% waterproof PVC in bathrooms and back-of-house areas, WPC, charcoal panels and louvers on dry feature walls in lobbies, corridors and rooms, and UV marble or backlit alabaster for hero walls.

Are decorative wall panels fire-rated?

No. Decorative PVC, WPC and charcoal panels, louvers and UV marble sheets are interior finishes, not fire-rated products. Where a fire rating is required, specify FR-grade ACP or another material with test documents for that rating, and follow your fire consultant's advice.

What is FR ACP and when do you need it?

FR ACP is aluminium composite with a fire-rated, mineral-filled core instead of a standard core. Specify it on high-rise elevations and wherever your fire consultant or the local authority requires it. It costs more than standard ACP, which starts from ₹75 per sq ft before GST, so it is priced per project.

Which wall panels can be used in hotel bathrooms?

PVC wall panels, because they are 100% waterproof and termite-proof and have no grout lines. Do not use charcoal panels in showers or wet zones.

How do you clean and maintain wall panels in a hotel?

Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, use a soft brush or vacuum brush along louver and flute grooves, and avoid solvents and abrasive pads. Keep a small attic stock of spare panels so that a damaged strip can be replaced without redoing the wall.

Can Urbane Decor supply large hotel projects across India?

Yes. We prepare piece counts and BOQs from drawings, dispatch within 24 hours with most orders reaching anywhere in India in about 5 to 6 days, deliver same-day in Mumbai, ship worldwide, and install in major cities. Architects, designers and contractors can ask for a free sample kit.

What warranty do hospitality wall panels carry?

ACP carries a warranty of 6 to 10 years depending on the grade selected. Every other Urbane Decor product, including PVC, WPC and charcoal panels, louvers, UV marble and alabaster, carries a 6-year warranty.
